Affiliate Disclosure
Explore the Known World is free to read. To keep it that way, some pages contain affiliate links ("partner links") to hotels, tours, activities and other travel services. If you click one of these links and make a booking or purchase, we may earn a commission from the provider. This never costs you anything extra – the price you pay is the same as booking directly.
How to recognize partner links
- Partner links are marked with the name of the provider (for example "via Booking.com") and a short note on the page.
- Guides that contain partner links show a notice near the top of the page.
- Partner links open in a new tab and pass through a short redirect on our site (
/go/…) so we can count clicks.
Our editorial independence
Our destination guides are written to be useful first. Partners cannot pay to change what we write about a destination, and we only link to services we consider relevant to the guide you're reading. Commissions never influence our descriptions, budgets, itineraries or tips.
Advertising
We may also display advertisements served by third parties such as Google AdSense. Ads are clearly labeled "Advertisement" and are selected by the ad network, not by us. Showing an ad does not mean we endorse the product. Learn more in our Privacy Policy.
Click tracking
When you follow a partner link we record which link was clicked, on which page, and when. We do not store your IP address; instead we keep an anonymous code that changes every day so we can count unique visitors. See our Privacy Policy for details.
