The Si Phan Don is a riverine archipelago in the Mekong River, Champasak Province in southern Laos. Si Phan Don is part of Khong District, including the islands and part of the mainland in the east. November to February (Dry Season): Ideal weather — sunny, mild temperatures, and lower humidity. Best time to spot Irrawaddy dolphins and explore by bike or boat.
March to May (Hot Season): Hot, especially midday. Still a good time if you’re prepared for heat.
June to October (Rainy Season): Lush greenery, dramatic waterfalls, but some flooding and transport delays may occur.
From Pakse (Main Hub in Southern Laos):
Take a bus or minivan (~3–4 hours) to Nakasong.
From Nakasong, take a long-tail boat (~20–30 min) to Don Det, Don Khon, or Don Khong.
From Cambodia:
Cross at the Dom Kralor–Veun Kham border, then take a tuk-tuk or minivan to Nakasong, and onward by boat.
Note: No bridges to the main islands; access is only by boat.
